The French love to say that Blair is Bush's poodle, and Aznar is not much better as far as they are concerned. If Blair and Aznar are closely following the US line on terrorism it is because they are all too familar with terrorism itself. Aznar survived a ETA car bombing in 1995, and Blair is part of a political generation which was marked by Margaret Thatcher's survival of an IRA hotel bombing in Brighton in 1984. On the other hand, France's reaction to terrorism on French soil in the 80s and the 90s was the same: It should be noted that the singing drunk Renaud has had his 2 biggest hits at the expense of terror victims: 'Miss Maggie' and 'Manhattan-Kaboul'. |
